Replacing RV Cushions: A Step-by-Step Guide
When it comes to replacing the cushions of your RV, getting the perfect fit is key. If your cushions don’t fit properly, they won’t be as comfortable or look as good. Fortunately, measuring your cushions for replacement is a fairly straightforward process. Here’s how to make sure you get the right fit every time.
Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Measure
Before you begin, you’ll need to gather a few tools. Measuring tape, a pencil and a piece of paper for taking notes will all come in handy. You may also want a camera so you can take pictures of the area you’re measuring. This will make it easier to recall the measurements when you go to order your replacement cushions.
Step 2: Order Replacement Foam, Covers or Both
FoamOrder’s easy step-by-step process will walk you through how to turn your measurements into an order for new cushions. You’ll just need to enter your measurements, select your foam, batting and cover options, and wait for your new cushions to arrive. Or, for the DIYers out there, you can order standard upholstery foam and cut the cushions to your dimensions on your own.
Step 3: Removing the Old Cushions
Once your new cushions or foam arrives, you’ll want to commence removing your old cushions. Start by removing any covers or fabrics from the cushions. Next, locate any screws or nails holding the cushions to the RV and remove them. If you find any staples, use a flat head screwdriver to remove them. Once all the fasteners are removed, the cushions should come off easily.
Step 4: Installing the New Cushions
Once the old cushions are removed, you can start installing the new ones. Place the new cushions inside the old covers. If you measured correctly, they should fit snugly into the covers. Once they are installed, use the same screws and nails to secure the cushions in place. Some RV and Van installations will rely on velcro or ties to hold the cushions down, which will make things a little easier.
Step 5: Adding Covers and Fabrics
If you’ve decided to add covers and fabrics to the new cushions, you’ll need to put the foam inside the covers before installation. For the DIY crowd, you can of course purchase fabric and sew the covers yourselves. Once you’ve purchased your covers or the covers are made, you can slip them over the cushions and secure them with Velcro or buttons.
